Bonamanzi Game Reserve

Bordering the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Bonamanzi Private Game Reserve is one of the Zululand Birding Routes best locations that boasts an impressive species list of around 350 bird species, that includes Pink-Throated Twinspot, African Broadbill, Rudd’s Apalis and Southern Banded Snake-Eagle.

Enseleni Nature Reserve

Enseleni Nature Reserve is an excellent bird watching location that lies just off the N2 highway and is the perfect stopover en-route to the Zululand Game Reserves. 

 
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve

 

Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve is probably KwaZulu Natals premier game viewing destination which holds good populations of the Big Five as well as Cheetah and Wild dog. Birding is excellent with the camps being particularly good for bird photography. This is the location where Black and White Rhino were brought back from the brink of extinction. It is easily accessible from Durban or Richards Bay.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park - Western Shores

The Western Shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park form part of the Zululand Birding Route and team with birdlife, insects and butterflies, as well as being home to African Elephant and other game species.

Ongoye Forest Reserve

Ongoye Forest Reserve is a large remnant patch of coastal forest covering approximately 3900ha and is the only known location of the Green Barbet, making it one of the Zululand Birding Routes must see locations.
